Anita M. Ellis is a partner in the firm’s Pittsburgh office.  With over 20 years of litigation experience, she continues to focus her practice exclusively on defending employers, insurance carriers and third-party administrators in all workers’ compensation matters.

Prior to joining C&W, Ms. Ellis served for 18 years as in-house counsel for U.S. Steel Corporation handling all facets of workers’ compensation litigation for the company’s self-insured program in Western Pennsylvania.  She has the unique perspective of having participated in the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation system from the employer’s chair for five years as Personnel Coordinator for Allegheny Valley School and another five years in the insurance claims representative seat handling Pennsylvania workers’ compensation claims before opting to go to law school in 2000.

Ms. Ellis will be Chair of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association as of May 2024 and has chaired its Workers’ Compensation Legislation Committee since 2012.  In 2021, she was appointed a Zone 12 member of its House of Delegates.  Ms. Ellis has also served as an appointed member of the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council since 2017.

She received her B.A. from Chatham College in 1982 and her J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law in 2003, where she was a member of Law Review.
