Biography

James F. Barrett is a 1995 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Government and Public Service. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh in 2002.

Since being admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in 2002, he worked for a Scranton based law firm that represented several local hospitals. He dealt with a wide variety of issues for the hospitals, but he eventually specialized in dealing with work related injuries and injuries that occurred on hospital premises.

His work with these hospitals enabled him to specialize in the litigation of workers’ compensation claims. For six years he limited his practice to representation of only Insurance Carriers, Self Insured Employers and Third Party Administrators. His prior experience includes working for a large Philadelphia based Insurance defense firm as well as Cipriani and Werner. After representing plaintiffs and claimants for the last three years, Attorney Barrett has returned to his roots focusing on the defense of employers in the area of Workers’ Compensation Law. His time representing plaintiffs and claimants gives him a unique perspective in handling the ever evolving and complex area of work related injuries.

Attorney Barrett has practiced before several workers compensation judges across Pennsylvania, as well as argued before the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board and the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania. He has also spoken at several seminars and employer functions regarding the rights and responsibilities of employers under the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Act.

He was recently recognized for his excellence in Workers’ Compensation Law by being named a 2010 Rising Star by Philadelphia’s Super Lawyer Magazine.

Attorney Barrett is a member of the Luzerne County Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Trial Lawyers Association. He is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
