Biography
Rebecca Sember is a Pittsburgh native who has returned to practice in Pittsburgh after three years of practicing in Seattle, WA where she was a partner at one of the largest Seattle insurance defense firms. While in Seattle, Ms. Sember practiced exclusively in the areas of premises liability, medical/professional malpractice and municipal liability, representing Fortune 500 companies and various medical providers throughout the State of Washington. Ms. Sember received her Bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, in 1991 in political science and classics from Duquesne University. She received her J.D., cum laude, in 1994 from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana where she was a member of the Inns of Court, the Appellate Advocacy Clinic and was awarded first prize in the Women in the Law writing contest. Her winning article, The Battered Woman Syndrome: A Fictional Story of Realities, was published in the University of Puerto Rico Law Review in 1994. Rebecca served as the judicial clerk to the Honorable Richard Saxton, President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Clinton County, Pennsylvania.
She is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and Washington as well as the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the Western District of Washington, the Eastern District of Washington and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and Ninth Circuits. Her practice continues to be devoted entirely to civil litigation with concentration in the areas of premises liability, medical/professional malpractice, municipal liability and insurance practice liability.
In addition to her busy litigation practice, Ms. Sember has performed pro bono work at Allegheny County’s PFA project, frequently lectured for the Institute of Paralegal Education and has written several legal writing manuals including Effective Legal Writing for Paralegals and Advanced Legal Drafting for Pennsylvania Paralegals.
