COVID-19: WV Supreme Court of Appeals Extends Judicial Emergency Order

On April 2, 2020 the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia amended its previously entered Judicial Emergency Order to extend the operative time frame of the Order to May 1, 2020.  In addition to extending the Judicial Emergency to this date, the Court further stayed all activity that would require in person contact in civil cases.  All jury trials are also stayed during this time period.  Statute of Limitations and Statutes of Repose that expire during the pendency of the Order are automatically extended to May 4, 2020.  The Order, however, does make very limited exceptions for emergency proceedings in juvenile, abuse and neglect, mental hygiene, child custody and criminal matters.
