Veterans Day – November 11th

On November 11, 2021, we will celebrate Veterans Day.  Veterans Day used to be known as Armistice Day and was established as a United States legal holiday to honor the end of World War I, which officially took place on November 11, 1918.  Accordingly, Armistice Day was initially set to honor World War I veterans.

At the urging of veterans service organizations, Congress in 1954 amended the 1938 legislation by striking out the word “Armistice” and inserting the word “Veterans.”  With that amendment, November 11th became a date to honor American veterans of all wars.

In 1968, additional legislation was passed changing the celebration date for Veterans Day to the fourth Monday of October so as to ensure a 3 day weekend for Federal employees.  However, many states did not agree with the change and continued to celebrate Veterans Day on November 11th.

In 1975, the law was once again changed to return the observance of Veterans Day to its original date of November 11th.  Since then, Veterans Day has been celebrated on November 11th.

Veterans Day is an important holiday in that it provides us all with the opportunity to honor and thank all veterans and current members of the military for their service.

Please join me on November 11, 2021 in letting all veterans and active members of the military know that we appreciate all they have done and continue to do for us.

Finally, as this year comes to a close, in addition to honoring veterans on Veterans Day, other opportunities remain to pay tribute to all veterans.  Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, the United States Military continues its mission to remember, honor and teach by implementing and coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as more than 2,500 additional locations in all fifty (50) states, at sea and abroad.  The wreath-laying continues through the month of December.  This year, National Wreath Day is December 18, 2021.  Cipriani & Werner is a proud contributor to Wreaths Across America.
