Jessica Butkera and Joseph Vercillo, attorneys in the firm’s Maryland (Metropolitan D.C.) office, obtained a dismissal on behalf of a restaurant sued by the family of an employee who was tragically shot and killed in the restaurant’s parking lot.

The Circuit Court of Montgomery County agreed with Ms. Butkera’s and Mr. Vercillo’s argument that Maryland’s Labor and Employment Code precluded the family’s civil lawsuit after some of the family members had previously pursued Workers’ Compensation benefits and were contractually barred by express release.
