Robert E. Scott, Jr. is Of Counsel in the firm's Hunt Valley, Maryland office.  With over 50 years of civil trial experience, he concentrates his practice in all areas of products liability, drug and medical devices, environmental/toxic torts and insurance coverage matters in state and federal courts throughout the United States.  Mr. Scott has served as national counsel in insurance coverage and products liability litigation and has represented multiple companies in class action litigation.

Mr. Scott received his B.S. in Economics from the University of Maryland in 1967 and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1970, where he was an editor of the Georgetown Law Review.  Upon graduation he clerked for Chief Judge Edward S. Northrop of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.  He is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the District of Maryland and the District of Columbia; U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third, Fourth, Fifth and District of Columbia Circuits; and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Mr. Scott has been an active member in various professional bar associations, including Past President of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), a 21,000 member national defense lawyer association; Past President of the Maryland Defense Counsel; Past President of the National Foundation for Judicial Excellence; and Past President of Lawyers for Civil Justice.  He has also served as the Director of the International Association of Defense Counsel Trial Academy and is a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel and the Maryland State and District of Columbia Bar Associations.  He is also a lifetime member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference.

Mr. Scott is widely recognized for his devotion to the legal profession and his commitment to the civil justice system.  He has published numerous articles and lectured extensively within the Mid Atlantic area as well as nationally on topics involving insurance coverage, products liability, drug and medical devices and trial skills and tactics.  He is the recipient of prestigious legal awards, including the 2018 John H. Mudd Lifetime Achievement Award (Maryland Defense Counsel) and the 2016 DRI Louis B. Potter Lifetime Professional Service Award.  In 2021, Mr. Scott was honored by the Bar Association of Baltimore City upon his 50th anniversary of service to that organization.
